We each have a good sense of how we see ourselves -- from the face we see in the mirror each morning to the way we treat strangers to the clothes we choose and the foods we enjoy. But how often do we reflect on how others see us?
Myself From Another's Point of View
This is an exercise that leaves me a bit stumped. To imagine myself from another's point of view, I would have to get some distance away from my own perception, and I'm not sure if I can do it. I'm so critical of myself. I'm guessing that others do see a cautious and reserved person, but not necessarily one as anxious and insecure as I often feel. I think my sisters see me in a way that is full of joy and love. I think they, as well as my mother and father, see the me I want to be.
I've been told by co-workers that I come across as confident and a bit distant/unfriendly. I seem to give off the impression that I don't care what others think of me and, therefore, am willing to say what I think.
I feel that I have little confidence. My shyness is mistaken for unfriendliness. I try not to care what others think from the standpoint that I don't want others to influence my actions in that way. I do try to be kind and considerate of others.
Loved ones describe me as funny, kind, being a good listener, being an "old soul".
I like to think that's accurate. : )
